Surprise Yule Gift

I just got a package from France. It is a shawl my sister, Maria, sent me. Bu might be interested in seeing it. It is a brightly woven brocade made by a small family-run weaving operation in France.

My family must be worried that I'll be cold this winter. This the second shawl they gave me. The first was a forest green one from Gaby.

But both are the same style. Basically a rectangle with a teardrop cut halfway through. Sort of like a poncho but cut open. Years ago I got a wool cape like this (it was a barter at Starwood). The woman I got it from told me it was "Celtic Brat" and I took her word for it. But looking over the internet it seems that the "Celtic Brat" was basically a big wool blanket (the true ancestor of the kilt, don't get me started). I have been Googling for an hour and can't find any particular name for this pattern, or even a clear picture of it.

BTW the conceptual boundary between "cloak" and "shawl" is very blurry.
