Fish on Friday

I love seafood. My family used to vacation in Maine every August and I would go fishing with my dad. We would also collect fresh mussels off of the rocks and buy fresh lobster from the local lobster men.

My dad loves the sea, and my mom is an ex-Catholic. She grew up eating fish on Friday and since dad loves fish there was no reason to stop that tradition.

I recently mentioned the "Fish on Friday" thing to blaisepascal and he was under the impression that it was only for Lent. I always understood that people could choose to give up red meat entirely for Lent, but fish on Fridays was all year 'round. There is evidence both ways.

I found a great site about the history of Fish on Fridays It seems Christians used to fast more often than they do now. And modern Lobster dinner or a good Bouillabaisse is hardly a fast by any standards.

J doesn't generally like fish (funny that he has chosen a seafood restaurant for his birthday) so I haven't been cooking it much since I've been living with him, just fish sticks and canned tuna occasionally. (And fish is expensive nowadays)
