Fan Fiction RPF AU OOC

I don't generally read fan fiction. But FanFic critiques have been showing up on metaquotes so I have been learning the acronyms.

Apparently RPF means Real Person Fiction, AU means Alternative Universe, and OOC mean Out of Character.

So an RPF AU OOC might be a story where Antonio Benderas is in an alternative universe where he is an orphan named Alejandro Murrieta living in 1840's California and is trained to be Zorro. In other words RPF AU OOC is a story in which a real person acts as a character other than themselves (or a character they have played before) in a story not related to them. The example I gave is 1998 action film "The Mask of Zorro".

In other words RPF AU OOC is an original screenplay with particular casting specified. Which really isn't fanfic at that point. It's not the same character, it's not the same universe, it's not the same person.

It's sort of like George Washington's ax. Once you replace the ax head and the handle in what way is it the same ax?

I don't think I said it as well as moriapolonius did.
