Doctor Who: The Caves of the Androzani

I have been watching a lot of Doctor Who but "The Caves of the Androzani" is the most over the top melodrama I have seen yet. Not only is the script over the top but the acting and directing are also extreme. I was going to just watch instantly on Netflix but I have hear the commentary track for this one. What were they thinking?

EDIT: Everyone is chewing the scenery and the big baddie is doing asides to the camera.

Wow. I know I've never seen that one. I've seen a lot of scenery chewing on Dr. Who, but I don't recall asides to the camera.
This was Peter Davidson's last story. The netflix reviewers are raving about it, but the only things I can give it credit for are lighting and sound track. Doctor Who always looks better when it is dark, and the background music is excellent, they seem to have given up on the synth music they were using in previous episodes.

As for the rest, it has to be seen to be believed. And I'm not even talking about the cheesy man-in-a-rubber-suit monster. That is just normal for Doctor Who.
