Rice Pudding Again!

"Rice Pudding" by A. A. Milne
What is the matter with Mary Jane?
She's crying with all her might and main,
And she won't eat her dinner - rice pudding again -
What is the matter with Mary Jane?

What is the matter with Mary Jane?
I've promised her dolls and a daisy-chain,
And a book about animals - all in vain -
What is the matter with Mary Jane?

What is the matter with Mary Jane?
She's perfectly well, and she hasn't a pain;
But, look at her, now she's beginning again! -
What is the matter with Mary Jane?

What is the matter with Mary Jane?
I've promised her sweets and a ride in the train,
And I've begged her to stop for a bit and explain -
What is the matter with Mary Jane?

What is the matter with Mary Jane?
She's perfectly well and she hasn't a pain,
And it's lovely rice pudding for dinner again!
What is the matter with Mary Jane?

Kelly has been making us dinner at book club so I have been doing desert. Gluten free deserts are hard. There are special gluten free flour substitutes but they are more expensive. And I prefer things that are naturally gluten free. A few weeks ago Marge brought rice pudding. It was the creamy stove top variety, just rice, milk, and sugar. The week after that I brought Kheer, which is the same thing with cardamom, rosewater, pistachios, and sultanas. This week I'm bringing baked rice pudding with cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, raisins, eggs, and milk. Next week I think I will do sticky purple rice with coconut milk and mandarin orange slices.

Yum. Too bad you probably can't do a bread pudding unless you find a gluten-free bread. Good bread pudding is also yummy.
