I'm really very smart.

I've noticed recently that when I say a know a little about something that means I know more than most people. If I say I know a lot of about something that means I know about as much as a person who specializes in that subject. If I think I'm an expert at something, I really am. Even if I think I know "nothing" about something I know more than a lot of people do, because I can extrapolate from what I know about other things.

For instance, I don't know Spanish. My knowledge of Spanish is limited to three years of high school French (and I don't really know French either) and what I have heard on TV. I just took an online placement test in Spanish and got Beginner Level 2 in Vocabulary, Listening, and Verbs, and Beginner Level 3 in Grammar. Even though I know nothing about Spanish I know more than a complete beginner.

I took the Spanish placement test because I want to be able to talk to the staff at the local Mexican restaurant. Right now I can barely make it past "Buenos días", "¿Cómo estás?" "Estoy bien".
