Too Damn Hot!!!!

I went swimming in the cold lap pool today. I haven't done that in years. But it was so hot outside the cold water felt good. I spent two hours in the water and walked over a mile. I seem to have pulled a muscle near my collar bone. I have no idea how. I don't even know what those muscles are called.

I've finally got the gumbo started on the stove. It's been so hot I didn't want to cook. But I had to cook this okra before it went bad. It's chicken and sausage gumbo this time.

Book group went well today. I brought my Mom's Chocolate pudding cake. It was very popular. I also brought cold Thai tea (I need to bring a decaf cold drink next time). Marilyn brought onion dip and celery, and Anne brought cheese and crackers. We had quite a nice little lunch and finished Book 1 of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. We have three different translations and are reading all three at the same time. The chapters of the books are numbered so it easy to keep track of where we are. My edition is expurgated (The one without the gannet!). It left out the references to the previous emperor having sex with young boys and Marcus refraining from having sex with house slaves. I'm going to have to get one of the unexpurgated versions.

Last weekend's trip to Binghamton went well. Friday I made pizza and dipping strips from scratch for Song and the kids. Saturday I did some work on the garden and Song grilled my pork Spiedies and vegetable skewers.

Sunday I had dinner with my parents. My sisters sent me some money and I bought porterhouse steaks, triple cream brie, organic field greens, marinated artichoke hearts, sour cream, a strawberry shortcake, and some licorice (Dad loves licorice). Mom already had potatoes and tomatoes. It was interesting having such nice steaks. My parents aren't the sort of people to spend that much money on steak (well, Dad might but Mom wouldn't). I would never buy that expensive a cut of meat for myself. But because it was a present we all got to eat really good steak.

On Monday I stopped to visit sammisnake and helped her figure out some crochet. I came away from that with the start of a recycled grocery bag floor mat. I'm still working on it, but it is coming along nicely.
