SNAP Meat Processing Day

It occurs to me that people doing the SNAP challenge can't take advantage of bulk sales the way actual SNAP recipients can. The ham I bought for $1.99/lb cost me $22.13 total, that is a huge chunk out of a $50/week budget but only $5.52 a week out of a monthly budget. I just broke the ham into 1lb packages I got 10 full packages and 1 soup bone. Each one of those packages will go into some kind of soup or casserole that will feed me for several days. Which is a pretty good deal.

I noshed on ham while I was packaging and ate an orange for breakfast.

I need to get out my marinade recipes. I think I will marinate the the pork before I freeze it, so I won't have to marinate it later. I am planning on doing satey and spiedie marinades. I may make the sweet and sour pork tonight or tomorrow.

Wegmans usually has the whole pork shoulders for $1.29/lb. Maybe next month I will do the char siu pork, and steamed pork buns.
