Blood Sugar Testing

My doctor has really been on me to submit my daily blood glucose testing numbers. I have been resistant because I had stopping testing. I know I've been bad, but the number never change! And I had misplaced my equipment.

Since this month starts my new CSA plan, and I'm scheduled to see a dietitian next week, I decided to start the month off right by keeping a food diary and start taking my blood tests at least twice a day.

The big problem with my current testing device is that it needs a fairly big drop of blood, bigger than my old device. And if the blood starts to spread out over my skin I can't get enough into the strip, and have to try again with a new poke and a new strip. If I'm sweating it is almost impossible to get a good drop to sample. Since it is summer and I'm going to be sweating a lot I decided to try an experiment. I rubbed my skin with Chapstick before I took the sample. The blood beaded up perfectly. I have a week of "uncontaminated" samples to compare it to, so I will keep doing this and see if it changes the readings. But there is no reason to think the wax is mixing with the blood and it saves me from having to poke myself repeatedly.

There is alcohol in the chapstick so if the readings start going up I might try plain petroleum jelly.
