Kumquats

Have you ever tried Kumquats?

The look like little oval oranges about the size of grapes. I was never sure what to do with them. They are so small it hardly seems worth the trouble to peel them.

Luckily I have the internet. It turns out you just pop them in your mouth and eat them whole.

They are the most amazing combination of sour and bitter and sweet. I don't think I would have liked them when I was younger and hadn't developed a tolerance for bitter. Now I find them almost addictive. The juice can be almost as sour as lemon, and the rind can be bitter but as you chew them together they become sweet. I have no idea where that comes from. Sometimes there is a seed or two that you can spit out or swallow. I shared some of my kumquats with Marilyn and Anne but they were not impressed and didn't want to try them again. So they are not to everyone's taste. But I quite enjoy them.

Personally I think kumquats belong in a fruit salad, halved.
I love a good fruit salad. But I mostly eat plain fruit. Fruit salad is work. I was going to say that it is expensive as well. But I just bought a bunch of fresh fruit so I could make a salad out of it if I wanted to. In addition to the Kumquats I got strawberries, blueberries, bananas, apricots, and fresh figs. I was craving fresh fruit. I always get that way toward the end of the month.
Candied kumquats are awesome.
