Dinner and a Movie night has been moved to Wednesday

"Serenity" is a depressing movie.
I saw it a long time ago but we watched it again. It is really, really depressing.

Dinner and a Movie: Kebab and "Primeval"

B took me out to New Delhi Diamond's for dinner and I had the Kebab. Until recently I thought all Kebabs were Shish Kebabs (chunks of meat and veg on a skewer). But I just learned that most Kebabs are minced spiced meat and herbs shaped around a skewer. I had never tried that. The only Kebab on the menu was chicken. I told the waitress that I wanted the Kebab. She came back and asked it I wanted Shish Kebab (Shish Kebab was not on the menu) I said no I wanted the Kebab. A different waitress came out and asked if I wanted the chicken or the Lamb Kebab (lamb kebab was not on the menu) I said Lamb since that was what I was hoping would happen when I didn't specify chicken. I knew lamb was more traditional than chicken, and if I'm going to try a new thing I want to do it properly.

Lamb Kebab is OK. Not fantastic. Just OK. I wanted to know what it tasted like and now I know. I think next time I will try the Lamb with mango sauce.

B and I split an Assorted Veg Appetizer plate. It came with Aloo Tikki which was not mentioned in the description on the menu. B had the Shahi Paneer which had raisins and cashews in it (which was not mentioned in the description).

The food was good. I attribute the discrepancies between what was described and what we got to the fact that this is a small family owned restaurant where they actually prepare the food instead of just defrosting and deep frying it.

After dinner we watched the Season 1 finale of "Primeval"

I feel there is a problem with the time travel. In the finale episode they have two surprises: they find out that they have seen things in the past that they had not done yet; and they find out that things they do can change the present. I feel that these two situations are mutually exclusive.

If you have time travel scenario where you have already done what you are going to do then you can not do anything to change the the present (or the future) because if you do you will already have done it in the past.

If you can change the present (or the future) then you can't see the effects of those changes until you have made them.

For example: If you come from the future and die in the past you can't find your own body because you haven't died yet. If you do find your own body then you can't change what happens because it has already happened.

Either the future has already happened and the past is fixed or the future has not happened yet and the past is not fixed. You can't have it both ways.

Dinner and a Movie: Pizza and "Primeval"

We had Pizza and wings at Napoli Pizzeria. Our waitress was a hoot.

Then we went home and watched the first 3 episodes of Primeval. It is quite good. Pretty much what I expected. Just as advertised. A bunch or oddball characters tracking creatures from the past that come through "Anomalies". From the web site it looks like they will also be dealing with creatures from the future. Well, that makes sense. They should probably read After Man: A Zoology of the Future or maybe not, don't want to infringe on any copyrights.

Their cute little flying reptile, Coelurosaravus, is not very well done. Rex is adorable but he has dragonfly wings. Although the Coelurosaravus had unique dermal rod structures to support it's wings they did not look like dragonfly wings.

The basic problem with wings is: what bones hold them open. In birds and bats it is the forelimbs that form the structural support for the wings. Some other animals such as flying squirrels use flaps of skin between their front and back limbs. The Draco genus of gliding agamid lizards glide by spreading their ribcage open.

From the official web site it seems they are making their prehistoric beasts bigger and nastier than they really were. But that is hardly surprising.

I recommend this for my friends who liked Jurassic Park.
