The Big Read meme

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well, let's see:

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

Sarah Palin child-naming meme

(via [info]shapeshft)

Sarah Palin married her high school boyfriend, Todd Palin, on August 29, 1988. The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 45 miles (72 km) north of Anchorage. The Palins have two sons (Track, 19, and Trig, four months) and three daughters (Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7) [ages as of August 2008]. Todd Palin has said Track's name came from the interest Sarah's parents had in the sport and the fact that he was born in the sport's season; Bristol was named after Bristol Bay in Alaska, where Todd grew up and where he does commercial fishing; Willow was named after Willow, Alaska; Piper got her name because it is uncommon and "a cool name"; Trig's name is Norse for "strength".

1)Your first-born will be named after your parents favorite sport:

Ski

2)Your second-born will be named after a nearby area that you're not from but you like the sound of part of the name, and maybe you have nostalgic memories of said place:

Windsor [M] or Ithaca [F]

3)Your third-born will be named after another nearby place, for no reason other than you already have two children and don't have time to put much thought into another name:

Candor [M] or Whitney [F]

4)Your fourth gets a "cool" name: [I had heard that Piper was named after the Piper Cub airplane. So I will go with a vehicle name]

Vega (my dad was a "kamikaze Vega driver!")

5)Your fifth gets something mythological, possibly straight out of Lord of the Rings: [and preferably Norse, I went with Runes]

Kenaz [M] or Othala [F]

What Privilege Do You Have? (meme)

(Via [info]paolasp)

[Edited for some context [info]siderea has some helpful commentary
The original source Social Class on Campus by Will Barratt, Ph.D.
Quaker Class Blogspot
On an interesting note, it seems to me that the people who don't understand the questions or don't see the point are the privileged ones. Privileged people don't see their own privilege! That's the point of the exercise! Duh!]

From What Privilege Do You Have?, based on an exercise about class and privilege developed by Will Barratt, Meagan Cahill, Angie Carlen, Minnette Huck, Drew Lurker, Stacy Ploskonka at Illinois State University. If you participate in this blog game, they ask that you PLEASE acknowledge their copyright.

Bold the true statements. I have added comments in italic.

6. Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers. I'm not sure, but probably.
7. Had more than 50 books in your childhood home
8. Had more than 500 books in your childhood home I never counted, but probably
9. Were read children's books by a parent My 3 older sisters were born in Germany, so some of my children's books were in German. My father used to read them to me In German! Until I got old enough to understand that he wasn't speaking English, then I would insist that he read them in English. Since they were not written in English he had to translate for me as he read :-)

11. Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18
12. The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively. sort of, for what the question means. But I'm fat and dress weird. Although looking over the plot summaries I'm not sure why.
13. Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18

The Everything Test (meme)

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more religious than atheist, more dependent than loner, more workaholic than lazy, more rebel than traditional, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more idealist than cynical, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are outgoing (100%), religious (93%), intellectual (78%), horny (64%).

Stereotypes
Punk Rock47%
Young Professional40%
Geek35%

  Socioeconomic

What American accent do you have?

It got me. It seems I have my parents' Ohio accent.

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Midland. The Midland (please don't confuse with "Midwest") itself is the neutral zone between the North and South. But just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from there. Since it is considered a neutral, default, "non-regional" accent you could easily be from someplace without its own accent, like Florida, or a big city in the South like Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Google Divination

[info]mondior sent me this meme where you Google "your name + needs" i.e. "Eva needs"

These were my first 4 results.

* Eva needs to review all her medications with her physician, including the information that she discontinued a prescribed drug.

* Eva needs love like any other human being, but love is something she'll never find; instead, she's stuck in a cell with Elvira,

* Eva needs to work on toning down the spunk and serving up some elegance.

* EVA needs a document icon

Hmm... how uncanny.

My Johari Window

Well, Ok I can understand why the other people should be limited to 5-6 words, it is too much of an imposition and would incourage false answers if they had to pick more.

But I think the subject of the test *should* choose a lot more traits 10 or 15 more.

Let me know what you think
