Boy forced to denounce his mother in public school.

Louisiana school punishes 7-year-old for talking about lesbian mother, ACLU alleges
A 7-year-old boy was scolded and forced to write "I will never use the word `gay' in school again" after he told a classmate about his lesbian mother, the American Civil Liberties Union alleged Monday.

Second-grader Marcus McLaurin was waiting for recess Nov. 11 at Ernest Gaullet Elementary School when a classmate asked about Marcus' mother and father, the ACLU said in a complaint.

Marcus responded he had two mothers because his mother is gay. When the other child asked for explanation, Marcus told him: "Gay is when a girl likes another girl," according to the complaint.

A teacher who heard the remark scolded Marcus, telling him "gay" was a "bad word" and sending him to the principal's office. The following week, Marcus had to come to school early and repeatedly write: "I will never use the word `gay' in school again."

make me wanna puke

Can you believe that we are still fighting this battle? When will the world realize that LOVE in ANY FORM is a GOOD THING?! I'm just so happy that I finally realized that peace would find me when I fell into the arms of the womyn who makes my world go round... (I have fallen, and peace has found me...)

I think an apology doesn't cut it

Looks like theres a lawsuit there. There was totally nothing wrong with what that poor boy said.
Its sad but bigotry gets worse the more south you go. I sent that article to my sister in law who just happens to be gay. Not to mention a lawyer.
I've read a gazillion accounts of this is the last couple days. I don't know what to say, other than this fits the pattern of incompetence that seems to concentrate in some schools (not all, by any means, but that's another story). Its like the kids who were suspended after Columbine for saying that they understood how angry someone would feel after being picked on for years.
That's seriously fucked up. I would be in such a fury if I was one of the parents. I hope that whever things go from here that it turns into a productive outcome.
